LEARN-TO-PLAY (LTP) THERAPY

Learn to Play (LTP) Program is a program to develop the spontaneous initiation of pretend play skills of children.

Research tells us that pretend play is important for children in developing problem solving, flexible thinking, and logical sequences in their thoughts. When learn how to play, they begin to understand the play of their peers and pretend play is important for their emotional well-being.

A child’s pretend play ability is scientifically proven to be linked with their development in language, narrative understanding, creativity, social competence, emotional self-regulation and cognitive skills. Improving children’s pretend play skill can enhance their ability to understand others points of view, see beyond the literal use of objects, and impose meaning and stories within their play.

Learn to Play can be used for children with developmental delay, learning problems, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Down’s syndrome, and neurological conditions.

FEEDING AND SWALLOWING ASSESSMENT

Feeding the Toddler_edited_edited.jpg

Our therapists are trained and experienced in helping infants and children with feeding difficulties, as well as conducting swallowing assessment/review for adults.

Feeding difficulties can arise because of structural differences or sensory difficulties. If your infant is having trouble with feeding or you have a child who is a highly fussy eater, it is important to get an assessment done so that we can treat the underlying problem.

Feeding Therapy may be beneficial if your child:

  • Is a fussy eater

  • Has poor weight gain

  • Spits out foods, vomits, gags or has food or drink coming out of their nose when eating

  • Has frequent mealtime battles

  • Has difficulty transitioning from purees to solids by 12 months of age

  • Has not weaned off baby foods by 18 months of age

  • Aversion or avoidance of specific textures or nutrition groups

  • Does not eat the same meals as the rest of the family

  • Experiences meltdowns or cries during mealtimes

  • Has very limited or restricted intake (less than 20 foods)

Our therapists work with Dieticians and other professionals to help the child improve and resolve feeding difficulties.
